Why does Opal Cool offer both SkinSafe™ 58°F and CoolNow™ 80°F?
Every Opal Cool product is engineered around a specific cooling purpose.
SkinSafe™ 58°F is our precision cooling technology, intentionally engineered within the 50-59°F moderate temperature range supported by published research for therapeutic cooling. It delivers long-lasting, direct-to-skin cooling designed to work with your body's natural physiological response to cooling.
CoolNow™ 80°F is our convenience cooling technology. Because your body is naturally much warmer than 80°F, it feels surprisingly cool the moment it touches your skin or lightweight clothing. Our CoolNow™ products naturally recharge at room temperatures below 75°F, providing instant cooling comfort whenever and wherever you need it, at home, at work, while traveling, or on the go.
What are the benefits of SkinSafe™ 58°F?
SkinSafe™ 58°F was intentionally engineered within the 50-59°F moderate temperature range identified in published research for therapeutic cooling. At this temperature, the body responds with moderate and controlled vasoconstriction, gently narrowing blood vessels to slow the movement of heat and fluid while maintaining a safe and consistent cooling sensation that is comfortable and analgesic.
Ice and freezing temperatures trigger a much stronger vasoconstrictive response. At extremely cold temps, blood vessels constrict more aggressively, circulation slows more dramatically, and your sensation diminishes -- turning off your body’s protective response to pain.
Burn alert: direct skin contact from ice increases the risk of frost bite, ice burns, and cold-related tissue injuries.
By delivering controlled cooling at 58°F instead of freezing temperatures, SkinSafe™ helps reduce the risk of ice burns and cold-related tissue injury while providing the physiological benefits of therapeutic cooling.
Larger SkinSafe™ products provide up to 60 minutes of cooling, while smaller products provide up to 30 minutes. When the cooling cycle is complete, simply remove the product and re-cool in the refrigerator or the freezer for 20-30 minutes.

How can CoolNow™80°F feel cool?
It may sound surprising, but 80°F feels refreshingly cool because it's
significantly lower than your body's natural temperature. The moment CoolNow™ touches your skin or lightweight clothing, you experience an instant cooling sensation.
The real innovation is convenience. CoolNow™ automatically recharges at room temperatures below 75°F, so it's always ready when you need it. Keep it in your purse, at your desk, in your gym bag, or with your travel essentials for cooling comfort wherever life takes you.
Larger CoolNow™ products provide up to 60 minutes of cooling, while smaller products provide up to 30 minutes. When the cooling cycle is complete, simply remove the product and let it naturally recharge. Just chill, remove, and repeat.

What is Opal Cool made of?
Opal Cool uses a proprietary plant-derived phase change material (PCM) that delivers controlled, consistent cooling designed for direct-to-skin comfort.
While many cooling products use petroleum-derived paraffin PCMs, Opal Cool's plant-powered formulation reflects our commitment to using renewable materials wherever possible. Our technology is engineered to maintain a precise cooling temperature, providing long-lasting comfort during use.
Opal Cool products are all SkinSafe™, latex-free, and designed with an antimicrobial coating on the cooling side for peace of mind.
If I take my SkinSafe™ product out of the freezer, am I putting below-freezing temperatures on my skin?
A product removed from a freezer temporarily has a surface temperature below freezing, but it quickly elevates to its safe, cool state. That initial reading reflects the product's storage temperature, not the cooling experience it was engineered to deliver during use.
Independent laboratory research has confirmed that within two minutes of removal from the freezer or refrigerator, as the Opal Cool products interact with the room temperature, or come in contact with your skin, they quickly and safely self-regulate to SkinSafe™ 58°F.
SkinSafe™ 58°F is a proprietary cooling technology designed to deliver controlled, therapeutic cooling as it interacts with your body's heat. The product's cooling performance is powered by its plant-powered change material (PCM) formulation and the way it transfers and exchanges heat with your skin.
Why is SkinSafe™ 58°F safer than applying ice for direct skin contact?
Unlike ice, SkinSafe™ 58°F is engineered to provide controlled, moderate cooling that is comfortable for direct skin contact.
Ice and frozen gel packs can expose the skin to temperatures at or below 32°F (0°C), which may increase the risk of ice burns, frostbite, nerve injury, or numbness if applied directly to the skin for too long. Because SkinSafe™ technology maintains a consistent 58°F (14.4°C), it provides soothing cooling without exposing the skin to those extreme temperatures.
This means you can comfortably wear Opal Cool products for extended periods, including while resting or sleeping, without the repeated on-and-off timing often recommended with ice.
Is Opal Cool FDA registered?
Yes. All Opal Cool products are registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as Class I medical devices for external use. This classification reflects the regulatory category applicable to these products and our commitment to meeting applicable FDA requirements.
Can I use my HSA or FSA benefits to purchase Opal Cool?
Many customers use their HSA or FSA card to purchase eligible Opal Cool products. If you don't use your benefits card at checkout, you may also be able to submit your receipt for reimbursement through your HSA or FSA plan administrator. Because eligibility varies by plan, we recommend confirming coverage with your benefits provider.
What is Opal Cool’s 30-day return policy?
We want you to be completely satisfied with your Opal Cool purchase. If you're not 100% satisfied for any reason, simply contact us at sales@opalcool.com within 30 days of your order's ship date to request a return.
We'll issue a full refund to your original payment method, less the original shipping cost.
Please note that returns are accepted only for products purchased directly from opalcool.com. Products purchased through third-party retailers or distributors must be returned according to the seller's return policy.
